What is a fire rated door and why do I need one?
So you have an inspection report from a bogus company that says "Garage door not fire rated" ......... What the heck does that even mean??? A fire rated door is a door that is designed from its inception to stop fires on one side of the door from igniting the things on the other side. Why is that important?
A garage is recognized by builders and inspectors and fire safety professionals as a place flammable materials are most likely to be stored, and therefore ignition has a better chance to take hold.
Wouldn’t it be a great idea to fireproof that area as much as possible so that – god forbid a fire does happen in your garage – it is contained to the garage for as long as possible to allow emergency services to do their part? That’s what a fire rated door does!!! If you don’t have one in your home to separate your garage and your living area we as home inspectors strongly recommend you upgrade to one.
If you don’t know if you have one, we at rust belt have a solution, Get a consultation!! We would love to come out and tell you of your door meets or exceeds current fire safety standards. Safety is one our founding principles and we love keeping our community safe.
