My furnace air is fine! I dont need to change the filter!
It’s still blowing air, so why change the filter? Changing the filter of your furnace before it starts getting cold is not just a good idea, it’s protecting your investment. A dirty HVAC filter can lead to all sorts of bad problems that are not just bad for your wallet but may be bad for your health. Let’s say you haven’t replaced your filter all summer because it just keeps blowing clean cool air, no problem, right? Wrong.
This is a side by side picture of a filter, clean and dirty.
As a filter builds up dirt and debris it gets harder for the motor to pull air through it. When the motor works hard it may cost more to run it and shorten the lifespan of the motor. An overheated motor can lead to electrical hazards and potentially a fire. But what could possibly ignite? How about a dirty filter? Changing a filter is easy work done anywhere between 2 and 6 months depending on pets and floor plans, and it’s something that every homeowner should educate themselves how to do. Do you know whether your furnace filter needs to be changed? If you cant remember when it was changed it might be a good idea to go ahead and change it.
