Its just water right?? Wrong!!

Its just water right? Wrong. What benefit would we gain if we got our private well tested? Well to answer this we have to understand what a private well is and the dangers and risks associated with pulling water straight from the ground.

This is an image of an old style manually operated well pump. It has the words “Its just water right?? Wrong!!!!” super imposed over it.

There are three main types of private well systems: Dug,or bored, driven, and drilled. Driven wel systems are mostly found in low elevations close to major systems of water where the ground is typically sand or very loose soil. This is very popular in Florida or along the Atlantic coast where simply pushing a pipe in to the ground will yield you water. Drilled water wells are usually found in mountainous terrain where water tables are far below the grade and drilling is the only way to get down to the water. A dug well, or a bored well is a well that has been either hand dug or bored out with a boring machine. In northeast Ohio where we call home it’s the latter that is most popular.

So we have a bored well, so what? Can we drink it? NO! Getting your well tested for contaminates should be done before considering to ingest the water from your well. Why? Because this water came from the dirt and dirt has all sorts of things that can harm us. Coloform bacteria is the pathogen responsible for the disease cholera.

Second is E.coli this one is more familiar and it affects more than a million people yearly as one of the main causes of sickness and digestive unwellness.

Finally we are going to talk about lead. Lead is a naturally occurring element that is found in the earth. Lead poisoning can seriously debilitate nervous system growth in children and can lead to liver and kidney failure as well as cognitive decline in adults. You don’t want this is your water.

Are you wondering if your private well system meets or exceeds industry standards of safety and health? Call us and we will come have a look-see.
